A Rainy Day Hunting

I have a short walk to my local PA State Game Land and while I’m not a big hunter, I will venture out on occasion. I spent a few hours out there this past deer season. It wasn’t raining when I started but it sure was by the end of the day!

I hunt around an area that has a small creek that runs down the mountain and I found a few interesting features of the area today. At one point, I was walking over a very rocky area and could not really tell where the main creek was but when I looked down, I realized that I was actually walking in the creek. It must be an area that spreads out quite wide – 20 or 30 feet maybe – but the water is under the rock. I need to explore it a little more. I am curious what happens when the water is high. I’ll check again in the spring. The stream itself is sometimes only a couple feet wide so having this wide area is strange.

The stream seems to start up near the housing development I live in and the HOA actually owns the land where the stream begins. Elevation there is around 1850 ft and the stream drops to around 950 from what I can tell from the topo maps. Someday I will walk the entire stream just to see the gap it cuts through the hills – some pretty steep.

There are a couple springs I have found that feed the stream. One is where I park or walk to get on the game land and there is a little pool there that runs down the hillside to meet up with the stream. I’ve known about that one since I found the area. The other spring I just found while on this little hunt. Runs right out of the hillside and down the hill into the stream. I should have that water tested someday, wonder how it is.

I’ll add some pics in here soon.
