Niagara Falls – trip #1

A couple of times, we’ve had to head up to Rochester or Buffalo for the kids to sing in all-state choruses or for them to visit colleges. Twice while we were there, we checked out Niagara Falls, which was really cool. Once it was very cold and there was a layer of ice covering everything.

All this ice was truly impressive and made everything look beautiful. Many of the areas like the one in the picture above were closed off though. I guess they didn’t want anyone sliding off a cliff.

We visited Goat Island that is in the river and encountered this evil little guy and many many many of his friends. They were all over the place and aggressive. I have a cool video of one of them blocking my daughter from getting back into the truck. It was pretty funny.

You can get pretty close to the falls on the US side.

Fairly certain that these two pics were taken from the Canadian side. From what I remember, we went to the Canadian side both times. We drove down to the visitor’s center and hung out there for awhile. We ate at Rainforest Cafe one time just for nostalgia – the one near us had been closed for quite awhile so it was nice to get back to it – even though it is overpriced. We tried to eat at a small crepe place which I believe is now Paris Crepes on Queen Street but it had a different name then – I have a picture that I need to find. It was closed though. While we were at the visitor center, we grabbed some coffee and donuts from Tim Hortons, of course, how could we have not?

What was truly striking is how well developed the Canadian side is versus the dump that is the New York side. It is truly sad.
